tip-artI sometimes notice that clients upload large size images onto their website. These images of 1 megabytes or more will slow down your WordPress website. Take them into a photo editor before you upload to reduce their size to about 1000 pixels wide (or 12″) at 72 dpi. You can read their file size and see if they are too large. In general, pictures that are downloaded from your camera will be too big, 4 megabytes or larger! It’s not true that WordPress will compress them as they get uploaded. So, I recommend you do due diligence and reduce their size first. To do that on a Apple desktop, take them into iPhoto and export them as a medium or small size image or alternatively, use a picture editor such as Picassa.
