NuFit Now’s Delaney Taylor is an excellent trainer and nutritionist. She has a business helping people get healthy through eating well and getting exercise. She travels to her clients homes and works them out while consulting with them about their diet. She will even cook meals ahead with you so you have no excuses!

Delaney asked me to help her design a new website, logo and business card. A WordPress template fit right into her budget and we quickly found one that suited her energetic spirit. Perugi Design helped her come up with the company name NuFit Now which was available for a domain. This wasn’t easy considering the number of fitness clubs in the country. The letters made for an easy font logo but she wanted some sort of nutrition icon with the type. Once the logo was approved, it translated easily into business cards which she ordered from Moo.com.

Delaney learned the WordPress dashboard quickly and is happily adding nutritious recipes and advice to her blog. Check it out at http://www.nufitnow.com.

As a printmaking major in college, and a lover of paper, ink and the printing craft, the art of Printmaking will always remain an interest. Over the past year, I’ve been taking a workshop with master printmaker Julia Talcott in her studio in Newton. (See her print “Touch” in the featured image) Carving into wood or linoleum plates can be a challenge as is the process which requires designing backwards, but the result is always surprising and rewarding. Carving, mixing paint, rolling, printing, more carving and printing. With ten pieces of Rives paper and four or five color combinations, you build over each color to produce the image, and each print is different.

A project designing and producing a book for a prominent family in Boston sent me to Acme Bookbinding in Charlestown, where the old process and new meet together in the same building. Acme is the oldest continuously operated book bindery in the world. In one room, you have the craftpersons restoring valuable old books and adding gold leaf to book covers. On the other floor are the offset printing presses or the digital presses. Covers are produced by hand and color foil can be added to the cover titles. Wandering through the press room you discover books in process that have been created for book art collectors. The books are of photographs, drawings and musings.

Michelle Brennen, manager at Acme, is the chair of the New England Book Show which was recently held at the Mary Baker Eddy Library this past May. It’s an elegant evening for lovers of books and I for one do not plan to miss it next year! Also check out the Boston Bookbuilders club if you are in the business of publishing books.

Double sided business cards on high quality 16pt thick paper stock with great print quality and a smooth satin feel cost $22 for 50 cards. Upload your own images or choose from Moo’s designs. Add your details and select rounded or square corners. You can even buy a cool holder for your cards for $10.

Remember I talked about Moo cards in previous posts. The best part, besides the price, is that you can upload your entire portfolio for no extra fee. 100 different cards will really show your creativity. But I uploaded just 5 different designs, so I’ll get 20 of each. I added in the cool holder and am now waiting for my cards to be delivered in the mail. Fast turnaround too, all the way from the UK!

Whenever I hand out my dainty business cards, people remark at their unique half size and the fact that each one is different. I owe it all to Moo, a unique printing company in the UK that has been providing me with great service and a unique product for several years.

Now you can buy their cards too right here on my site! (See left sidebar.) Moo cards are offered in regular size as well, and also with the option of many unique (up to 100) designs in one order or multiples of several designs. It’s up to you. Just upload your artwork or use their cool designs. Full color on one side and one color on the other, the small cards are also good for many other uses. Punch a small hole and use as a tag. Make a coupon or a place card for your wedding reception. The possibilities are endless! And it’s great for all businesses: showing off a product, word-smithing or a mini-portfolio. Have fun!

I recently attended a sustainable paper seminar hosted by Kirkwood Printing of Wilmington, Massachusetts. The event was held at Westin Hotel in Waltham and offered coffee, bagels and pastries, a big draw for me! Many paper companies set up their booths with paper samples and handouts. My favorite memento was a ready to plant spruce seedling. Companies represented were Monadnock, M-real, Cascades, NewPage, National Envelope, Finch, Mohawk, Crane & Co., the Italian company, Cordenons, Neenah and Sappi among others.

What I learned from Tammy Coe, associate of Sustainable Forestry/Smartwood, is that there is a third party certification process that printers and paper manufacturers go through to obtain the sustainable paper seal of approval. Many of these companies have strived to obtain this seal after a three year certification process. Kirkwood Printing is one of them. This assures customers that the wood and paper products they are purchasing come from forests managed to conserve biodiversity and support local communities.
