I sometimes view websites I made in the past and know that they need an update and a new look. Three years is about the life of a website, especially if it was hand coded html from the pre-social networking era. But there is one site that my client and I are still proud of. Laura-Harrington.com is one such site. It was made about five years ago and it still rocks. Laura is a 2008 Kleban Award librettist for musicals, plays, and opera and is recently a book author. She provided a wealth of beautiful photographs from her stage productions.
The process was two fold. A well thought-out design was needed. First, a palette for the various pages was devised based on the intensity of the hues of the photos that bring the site to life. I came up with a logo for the banner that would tie together over 50 pages. Organization was also key: There were slide shows and productions notes and reviews to deliver to the visitor. It was a daunting task, but Laura’s attention to the details made for a good working relationship that moved the project along smoothly. I think the overall design is a credit to our collaboration and as a result shows good form and function.
