Working with various clients over the months, I’ve had a chance to try out various themes built by other developers. Sites like Elegant Themes, Woo Themes and Theme Forest provide beautiful themes (or templates) at a low cost to designers and other wordpress enthusiasts. But, I found out the hard way that not all themes are equal.

My own site is built on Elegant Themes’ Minimal, which I find to be a flexible and solid. It comes with lots of short codes to use that add variation to the design where you need it. Another one is Corporation. I let clients choose their theme right from the ET website and of course, they expect what they see. But getting there is another story. Two clients liked Chameleon. It is relatively new and popular. Unfortunately, it is not intuitive, and difficulties are resolved by editing the code. I do like the ET forum, where you can find many resolved issues. Also, the owner will email you back if you send him a question. Nice customer service.

The Dotted Theme from Theme Forest is another winner. I’ve used it twice. A nice slider and very stylized and handy shortcodes.  DBM Catalyst is one client who uses it and another new client, Woolf Consulting, will be published shortly. I’m always looking for more themes, and the more experience I have with them, the more I can help my clients get through the design process smoothly and efficiently. Just remember, that all themes come with limitations. That is why they are so affordable. It’s prepackaged. So, pick the theme that best suits you and you will be happy with the results.
